Lagey Raho Bollywood!

I know this is a little late, but Lagey Raho Munnabhai was one hell of a movie. You know how much I hate Bollywood, but this movie made me proud of India, Bollywood and Gandhi!

The story was unbelievably well crafted. Almost everything made sense, and in the end it did not leave the audience (and me) with an unrealistic feel. It was hysterically hilarious and the acting was brilliant. Arshad Warsi almost overshadowed Sanjay Dutt with his overly humorous portrayal of 'Circuit'. However Sanjay Dutt was not bad, pretty good actually, but 'Circuit' just had much better lines.

But what was most brilliant about this movie was that it delivered a strong, very strong message in the end about the Gandhian principles of patience, non-violence, truth and persistence. I feel there was no better way to bring out such a meaningful message. It hits you, hits you hard, in the end, and you really start wondering how can you take on the principles Gandhigiri. I mean what better way to bring out this message than making one of the most lovable 'gangster' characters of the recent past, a Gandhian believer.

It was brilliant, and for the first time in a long time I thoroughly enjoyed a Hindi movie. The last movie I saw was Krrish, and it was very poorly made, cliched and fake - and the response it got - that was shocking! It has been so over-rated. I did not even laugh at its fake-ness, I was embarrassed.

However, Bollywood has been brightened up by this sequel of Munnabhai M.B.B.S. I hope this film gets the due recognition it needs and I also hope that Bollywood learns from this film, and comes up with better movies, with better story lines in the future.

Final Verdict for Lagey Raho Munnabhai: Simply brilliant, a must see!

Dude! The movies already out on DVD across Dubai...! You're that late!

As for the movie...It's AWESOME and a must see ...agree with you there! Pity they're not making a third part - Arshad Warsi doesn't want to be a supporting guy anymore..

hey....I totally agree with you, the movie was entertaining actually made sense compared to the rest of the bollywood movies. The gandhian principles have been portrayed really well and it is a good way to keep them goin with the new generation!
keep blogging!

Anish finally liked a hindi movie!Anish there are much more movies that are really good in the INDIAN FILM INDUSTRY(not "bollywood") that are worth your time. See OmKara...its still the best hindi film ive seen.

Well said .. totally agree. Had a good mix of humour, drama, emotion, meaning, etc.

But the attack on Krrish was a bit harsh. I guess most of the response to it was due to the fascination with the effects/superhuman concept. It wasn't great, but atleast someone Indian took a step in that direction. I don't think any movie can make a big impact, in India atleast, being the 1st of its kind. If it had been any bigger, there would be more kids out there jumping off the building trying to fly like Krrish (many did!!).

But Munnabhai - yeah, very good. Pity there's no 3rd (unless that gujju is wrong!).

manish - late, well yeah i admitted it!

tejas - no its bollywood man...:P

govind - When I went to watch Krish, I expected it to be very good, because the response it got in India was overwhelming. But I found it really bad, yeah fine it was 'a new approach', but it was very poor, expecially when you have Hollywood setting standards. Fine, Bollywood doesn't have the money. If you don't, then try something simpler first.

Don't agree with you there Anish. In a sense its a smart money making tactic -I'm talking about the animation and action only. Think about it:

Krrish (two k's) had mediocre action sequences, but still blew the Indian aucdiences (resident desi's) away. Why spend more just for overkill? This way Rakesh Roshan has made way for a threequel (that's a real word...) with better graphics.

Maybe he thought that way, maybe he didn't. He is known to be a greedy sort of guy...

"Rakesh Roshan is contemplating suing Pepsi and Kakkar. IndiaFM has learnt from unnamed Bollywood sources that Rakesh has turned megalomaniac since the success of Kaho Na Pyar Hai. Roshan Sr. has sued Archies for selling Hrithik's photos without paying him royalty. He is demanding obscene sums of money for anything related to Hrithik. It has earned Roshan Sr. the ire of entire film and trade fraternity. Sources said that these unwise steps may turn Hrithik's fans against him and he may loose his popular appeal, appearing a greedy and heartless ogre. "

Unfortunately a bollywood movie is only 'successful' (or rather a 'hit') if it makes lots of money...*sigh*
Anyway you might be happy to know that after the release of the movie, there has been huge sale of books on gandhi and his philosophies. Why this is so great is because it goes to prove how strong a medium films really are today. I think Lagey Raho has done more to make today generation aware of gandhi than all our text books in school ever did.
Personally dont believe 'gandhigiri' will work in real life (believe it was not the ideal way to get our freedom either) but if the realisation of such a philosopy can add some morals in unscrupulous men/women then why not propagate it as much as possible.

Totally agree about Krrish.

hey man
Lage Raho Munnabhai wasnt a sequel to Munnabhai M.B.B.S. it was another story having two similar characters from the earlier movie..
which is Sanjay Dutt(Munnabhai) and Arshad Varsi(Circuit)
Its totally different from the first one,I personally preferred the first one because of the comedy parts in it,in Lage Raho most of the comedy parts were lame. I liked the message given out by Lage Raho and it has definately influenced alot of people.
Overall it was a nice time pass movie definately deserves one watch or maybe two

abt Krrish...this was a new concept adopted by Indian cinema the effects were something new which no one has ever seen before in bollywood...I liked the story but the computer part(the future thingy) it was extremely stupid. From that point the movie was annoying.Lame to the core
the concept and story behind this movie was good but didnt put it well
overall...a very kiddish movie but definately much better than Koi Mil Gaya in my opinion
